Important! Each mug will be unique! Your mug will not be an exact match to the mugs in the pictures, Your mug will be a sibling of these mugs and therefore, there will be a family resemblance, but no exact twins! The making of these mugs involves placement of each flower and berry. As a result, the pattern of flowers and berries will be unique to each mug, no two mugs will be the same. I focus on creating a garden of flowers and berries on each mug and enjoy that each pot results in a varying array of Springtime color.

Remembrances of my early years include Redware pottery from very early days back east, Pennsylvania Dutch folk art with hand-brushed tulips and tiny flowers hung on old barns, Rosemaling painting adorning furniture... Designs with themes, possessing the maker's own brushwork, the maker's personality, if you will. My first very untamed garden of tulips, Columbine, bright flowers and berry bushes.

From these past times came this design: hand-painted Spring flowers on red clay, memories preserved in a blanket of glaze for everyday use... for relaxing with your own sentimental thoughts.

Each mug is made with a sturdy red stoneware clay. The pigmented-clay outline of the flowers and berries is then applied with a process using underglaze transfers. Once the transfers have dried, the fun begins. All the colors are hand-painted using pigmented clay to create a unique and joyful Springtime vignette on each mug. Finally, the mugs are coated with 3 coats of clear glaze. Since the design is created using pigmented clay, when fired in the kiln, all of the design becomes part of the clay body of the mug. As a result, the design will never wear off, scratch, or fade. This is not a decal, all of the design work is made from clay.

Hand-thrown and hand-signed using sturdy and functional red stoneware clay produced in Canada. These mugs are built to last, made to be used and bring a little smile to your day.

I create in small batches. Each piece is thrown in the likeness of the next, hand-crafted, and with hand-brushed glazing. I hope you’ll agree variations in color, small marks from the minerals and stone in the clay, or slight sways in design resulting from working with natural materials create the charm expected and treasured in handmade pottery.

Food-safe materials. Dishwasher and microwave safe, although I hand wash and shy away from microwaving my hot beverages.
