My humble homage to the Irish...
Designed as a nod to my Irish Heritage.
Flax has been grown in Ireland for centuries, possibly as far back at the first millennia. In the 17th century, the weaving of flax into linen became Irelands greatest industry. Printed toile fabric was originally produced in Ireland in the eighteenth century. It became very posh in France and at one point, a German built a factory in France to produce the fabric and in a very short time, the French through this German fella, robbed Ireland of it's primary export industry.
In an effort to set the record straight on who originally created the weaving of linen and the addition of a printed pattern now known as Toile Fabric, I present this Irish Linen design.
If you purchase one of these Irish Linen cups, you must promise that when it arrives, you will fill it with your favorite beverage, take it in your hand, lift your arm up high and yell out, "Viva La Ireland!"
Each mug is made with a sturdy brown stoneware clay, them they are coated in 4 coats of hand-brushed, liquid clay pigmented with ivory. Then, the pigmented clay pattern is pieced to fit each pot. Finally, the mugs are coated with 3 coats of clear and blue flow glaze. Since the design is created using pigmented clay, when fired in the kiln, all of the design becomes part of the clay body of the pot. As a result, the design will never wear off, scratch, or fade. This is not a decal, all of the design work is made from clay.
Hand-thrown and hand-signed using sturdy and functional brown stoneware clay produced in Montana. These pots are built to last, made to be used and bring a little smile to your day.
I create in small batches. Each piece is thrown in the likeness of the next, hand-crafted, and with hand-brushed glazing. I hope you’ll agree variations in color, small marks from the minerals and stone in the clay, or slight sways in design resulting from working with natural materials create the charm expected and treasured in handmade pottery.
Food-safe materials. Dishwasher and microwave safe, although I hand wash and shy away from microwaving my hot beverages.
