I have used this mug as the model for all the Laundry Sheep pots I've made in the last year. This surface design requires piecing the laundry, grass, flowers and, of course, sheep separately to build the summer scene. This mug has just the perfect placement of all the elements, the laundry has great color development while still showing the wash of each color and details with each piece of laundry. The sheep have great saturation of color. The grass and flowers are placed at the perfect height and also have great saturation of color. It has been the perfect model piece, and now it is time for it to wander off to bring joy and smiles to someone's everyday rituals!

Ya can almost feel the summer sun shining down to warm your shoulders, the light breeze blowing across the yard, the smell of freshly washed laundry, and the contented "Bah" of the sheep as they meander through the lines of clothes, nibbling on the lawn and napping in the shade.

The lazy days of summer, as one of my friends mentioned, they remind her of lying in the grass and watching the clouds float by, hearing bees buzzing and butterflies flitting about.

Each mug is made with a sturdy brown stoneware clay, them they are coated in 4 coats of hand-brushed, liquid clay pigmented with white. The outline of the laundry, the sheep and the grass is then applied with a process using underglaze transfers. Once the transfers have dried, the fun begins. All the colors are hand-painted using pigmented clay to create a unique and joyful vignette on each mug. Finally, the mugs are coated with 3 coats of clear glaze on the outside and 4 coats of white glaze on the inside. Since the design is created using pigmented clay, when fired in the kiln, all of the design becomes part of the clay body of the mug. As a result, the design will never wear off, scratch, or fade. This is not a decal, all of the design work is made from clay.

Hand-thrown and hand-signed using durable and functional brown stoneware clay produced in Montana. Each pot is hand-brushed with at least 6 coats of glazing, ensuring a thick blanket of glass for long-time use.

I create in small batches. Each piece is thrown in the likeness of the next, hand-crafted, and with hand-brushed glazing. I hope you’ll agree variations in color, small marks from the minerals and stone in the clay, or slight sways in design resulting from working with natural materials create the charm expected and treasured in handmade pottery.

Food-safe materials. Dishwasher and microwave safe, although I hand wash and shy away from microwaving my hot beverages.
