Time to sip your favorite brew while you meander through the forest.
I have loved Japanese Landscape paintings for as long as I can remember. Simple lines, patterns of brush marks, ink on paper with just a hint of color arranged to depict mountainous views, valleys below and often a water feature of some sort. I get lost in them, follow the patterns, look for a path to the highest point or a trail that meanders deep into the wilderness. They always stir my creative spirit to life.
This is the second version of the Nestled in the Woods design. In my attempt to recreate that sky on the first version of this design, I got close, but this mug has a more hare fur patterning in the glaze flow!!! I really love the shape of this mug and those sky glaze effects are some of my favorites. So, this mug has sat next to the first version of this design, in my studio for years, as I periodically reach for it, turn the mug round and round and try to remember how I got that fabulous sky on the first mug and these amazing hare fur patterns on this one. It's time for this mug to venture out to focus on holding someone's favorite brew!
This surface design was inspired by the thought that some creative spirits are awakened by meandering in a forest among tall trees, where the shadows make colors pop, eyes to the ground discovering new leaf shapes of plants, multi-colored mushrooms, curly, frizzy lichen, boldly patterned wood bark, curving and textured roots, ornate rocks, patterns of tracks in the trail, the trail itself.
Hand-thrown and hand-signed using durable and functional brown stoneware clay produced in Montana. Each pot is hand-brushed with at least 6 coats of glazing, ensuring a thick blanket of glass for long-time use.
I create in small batches. Each piece is thrown in the likeness of the next, hand-crafted, and with hand-brushed glazing. I hope you’ll agree variations in color, small marks from the minerals and stone in the clay, or slight sways in design resulting from working with natural materials create the charm expected and treasured in handmade pottery.
Food-safe materials. Dishwasher and microwave safe, although I hand wash and shy away from microwaving my hot beverages.
